As part of the Global Campus Trial (OSIP Program), eight students participated in a three-week program at the University of the Fraser Valley (UFV) in Canada, where they engaged in English language enhancement training and multicultural learning activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the first day of the program, students took an English placement test, and classes were assigned based on the results. After gaining a better understanding of their own English proficiency, students attended lessons tailored to their respective levels. Classes included reflections on the previous day\u2019s activities, group discussions, conversation practice, and pronunciation exercises, helping students develop the ability to express their opinions and impressions in English based on their real-life experiences. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Participants commented that they realized the importance of actively using English rather than simply learning it as knowledge, and that they had become less hesitant to speak English.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From Monday to Thursday, a variety of extracurricular and cultural activities were offered after classes. Students visited local entertainment facilities and participated in activities such as a downtown photo contest and movie screenings, providing enjoyable opportunities to use English in authentic situations. They also learned about Canadian nature, culture, and Indigenous history through experiences such as berry picking, walking tours, and art classes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Exposure to cultural perspectives and values different from those in Japan provided a valuable opportunity to deepen their understanding of diversity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students were also able to experience the rich natural environment and history of British Columbia through recreational activities at Cultus Lake, a visit to Fort Langley, and excursions to the Othello Tunnels and Bridal Veil Falls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Fridays, participants joined full-day field trips to Vancouver and the Capilano area. By visiting one of Canada\u2019s most vibrant cities and well-known tourist destinations on the West Coast, students further expanded their understanding of multicultural society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Toward the end of the program, students took part in a Game Day and a completion ceremony. These events provided opportunities to strengthen friendships with local students and fellow participants while celebrating the successful completion of the three-week program. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students shared positive feedback, noting that interactions with peers from diverse countries and regions broadened their perspectives and inspired them to continue studying English and pursuing further international experiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to improving their English proficiency and intercultural understanding, participants developed adaptability, independence, and problem-solving skills through dormitory life and the challenges of living abroad. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
